Gavin & Doherty Geosolutions Ltd (GDG) was appointed by BGH Property (Kilcock) to provide a ground movement prediction for a proposed sewer to be installed beneath an Irish Rail line. GDG were working in collaboration with Pat O’Gorman & Associates who were BGH Property’s engineer. GDG’s John O’Donovan and Alban Gorreja carried out a site visit to the proposed site of the sewer.

Design engineer, Juliana de Oliveira Vasconcelos, will present at CPT’18 next year in Delft, The Netherlands. CPT’18 is the 4th International Symposium on Cone Penetration Testing. It will focus on the solution of geotechnical challenges using the cone penetration test CPT.

On Friday 18 August GDG staff headed to Mespil Road & boarded the fabulous Canal Boat Restaurant & went down into the dining area for some mingling, chat & a lovely lunch (& delicious desserts).

Our Asset Inspection Team is currently training and mentoring with Irish Rail Staff to enable us to assist their national asset inspection programme. The team has examined all kinds of structures during the last two weeks including a couple of notable structures.

GDG collaborated with Aspire Consulting Engineers to investigate whether a currently cantilevering contiguous pile wall could support additional loads due to a mobile crane. The CFA pile wall was already installed and basement had been excavated. The project is located north west of London.

Our asset inspection team were delighted to see the good weather this week as we kicked off a new project with Irish Rail to undertake asset inspections for one third of the national railway network.

We are delighted to welcome the latest addition to our Belfast team - Helen is a graduate from Queens University Belfast, holding a Master’s Degree (MEnG) in civil and environmental engineering. Helens research project work at QUB included the development of a test programme for the mapping of wave climate within ocean wave basins, in conjunction with DHI’s Port and Offshore Technology Department.
