GDG Wins Key Contract for Baltica 1 Offshore Wind Farm

Venterra  Group  company  Gavin  &  Doherty  Geosolutions  (GDG),  a  leading  global  offshore  wind  services  provider,  is  delighted  to  have  been  awarded  a  contract  to  provide  early  supervisory  and  investigatory  geophysical  and  geotechnical  services  including  the  development  of  a  ground  model  and  the  conceptual  design  of  foundations  for  subsequent  design  stages  for  the  Baltica  1  offshore  wind  farm.  This  decision  by  PGE  Baltica,  from  Poland’s  PGE  Group,  underscores  the  confidence  in  the  Venterra  company’s  capabilities  to  undertake  and  deliver  critical  aspects  of  this  nationally  important  project.

Having  worked  in  Poland  for  more  than  a  decade  and  establishing  a  local  presence  in  2022,  Venterra  has  been  at  the  forefront  of  delivering  specialist  technical  services  for  several  Polish  offshore  wind  farm  projects,  including  Baltica  2  and  Baltica  3.  The  insights  and  in-depth  technical  understanding  gained  from  these  projects  have  provided  the  Venterra  Geoscience  and  Venterra Design  teams  with  invaluable  knowledge  of  the  ground  conditions  in  the  Baltic  Sea.  This  experience  is  anticipated  to  be  a  significant  advantage  for  the  Baltica  1  project.

The  award  of  the  Baltica  1  project  contract  marks  a  continuation  of  a  highly  successful  period  for  the  Venterra  Group,  which  has  recently  secured  substantial  contracts  across  the  Asia-Pacific  region,  North  America,  and  various  European  countries.  A  significant  part  of  Venterra’s  recent  market  traction  can  be  attributed  to  its  unique  single-point-of-contact  service  offering  across  the  entire  offshore  wind  farm  development  lifecycle.

Baltica  1,  set  to  be  a  900MW  wind  farm  located  approximately  80km  off  the  Polish  coast,  is  one  of  several  projects  currently  being  developed  by  PGE  in  the  Baltic  Sea.  Situated  in  the  Central  Shoal  area,  north  of  the  Baltica  2  and  Baltica  3  projects,  Baltica  1  has  already  secured  a  location  permit  and  a  connection  agreement,  positioning  it  as  a  crucial  project  in  Poland’s  offshore  wind  sector.

"We are thrilled to be selected to deliver design services for the Baltica 1 offshore wind farm project. This appointment by PGE Baltica is a significant acknowledgment of our teams' technical proficiency and the breadth of specialist services we offer including geoscience, advisory, and design capabilities from concept through to detailed engineering. Working on such a prestigious project in the Baltic Sea is a privilege, a project which is key to Poland's ambitious offshore wind targets. Venterra is fully committed to supporting Poland achieving the 5.9GW capacity target by 2030, and hopefully further supporting the expansion of capacities. We are delighted to be working alongside such a prestigious client as PGE and look forward to supporting the success of this landmark project."

Paul Doherty, Executive Vice President for Engineering, Venterra

The  selection  of  Venterra  company  GDG  for  this  project  underscores  the  company’s  depth  of  expertise  in  the  global  offshore  wind  sector.

Baltica 1

The Baltica 1 OWF project with a capacity of approximately 0.9 GW is one of three projects currently being implemented by the PGE Group in the Baltic Sea, approximately 80 km from the coast. The project already has, among others, location permit and connection agreement, and the first full year of wind, sea current and wave research. This year, PGE Baltica started testing the subsoil for the onshore part of the investment and signed an agreement to perform preliminary geotechnical studies of the seabed and to perform geological studies regarding the land-sea drilling. OWF Baltica 1 will be launched after 2030.
