  • Senior Engineer/Consultant (10 years’ experience) – Transport Infrastructure Risk Analysis Services

Overview: GDG are looking for a Senior Engineer / Consultant to take on a leading role on developing our business in network risk management for the transport infrastructure sector. This role will require a good understanding of transport infrastructure networks, how they are structured, how they operate and how they manage their assets on an ongoing basis. The role will involve asset management and risk modelling.
Over the past 5 years, GDG have developed core expertise in risk analysis of earthwork assets for the transport sector, with a particular strong emphasis on railway networks. This has culminated in the development of a specific Decision Support Tool for Irish Rail (the national railway owner/operator in Ireland). GDG now aim to develop, market and sell this expertise on a global basis through a number of discrete market channels. GDG are looking for a senior engineer/consultant to come on board to lead this development process. As such, the ideal candidate will have a combined commercial and technical background, with experience of civil engineering research deemed to be a strong plus.

GDG have already initiated this development process by securing Phase 1 of an EC backed funding scheme. The successful candidate for this position will be tasked with building on the Phase 1 funding and securing the next round (Phase 2) under the EC “SME INSTRUMENT” scheme. It is anticipated that the successful candidate would take the lead in the proposal stage and the project delivery stage.

The ideal candidate will be from a civil engineering background or a commercial background in the transport sector. Experience of major infrastructure projects would be deemed beneficial. Significant client interaction with infrastructure owners/operators will be a key aspect of the proposed position. This role will require a dynamic, flexible and driven individual who will commit to the project and drive this aspect of the business forward. A degree of independent working will be required and therefore the ideal candidate shall be comfortable in taking both technical and commercial responsibility.

This role will involve a combination of activities including: research proposal writing, project management, technical management, team development, commercial coordination, business development, etc. This role will require the successful candidate to work closely with other members of the research team as well as mentor more junior staff. While the primary focus of the role is on developing the service sector surrounding transport infrastructure risk analysis services, there will also be a secondary requirement to provide ad-hoc support to the wider technical team in Dublin.

This role will initially report to the Head of Research and be based in Dublin. Following successfully securing the Phase 2 funding this role will report to the Managing Director.
