  • CAD Technician - Belfast
Overview: We are currently looking for a suitable candidate to fill the role of CAD technician in our Belfast Office. The applicant should have experience in a working technician role in previous employment. Depending on the ambition demonstrated, we may also be open to hiring an entry level technician with a good grasp of draughting software.

The role of the candidate will be to support a team of Design Engineers delivering technical drawings and analysis to a wide range of clients including developers, contractors and other consultancies.

The ideal candidate will be fully proficient in AutoCAD and have some Civil 3D & Revit experience, Knowledge of BIM processes would be an advantage. A track record in a range of projects across the civil engineering sector would be beneficial, including infrastructure schemes, geotechnical profiles and structural detailing.

Job Description
The role will involve:
  • Working as part of a CAD Team and adhering to company standards
  • Providing full office CAD Draughtsperson support to Design Engineers
  • Ensuring that all drawing requirements are completed on time and in accordance with the associated deadlines.
  • Ensuring that CAD responsibilities and on-going requirements are planned, scheduled and managed in a way that allows for the incumbent to fully manage the role.
  • Preparation of new drawing layouts, conceptual design and detailed design drawings. This will include GAs, plans, cross sections, details, 3D Models etc.
Required & Preferred Skills Set:
  • Fully proficient in AutoCAD (essential), CIVIL 3D, REVIT, ArcGIS (Preferred)
  • Experience of producing civil & geotechnical long/cross sections (Preferred)
  • Experience of RC detailing. (Preferred)
  • Strong planning and organisation skills and the ability to meet deadlines (Essential)
  • Strong IT Skills (Essential)

  • Administrative Assistant (2 years' experience)
Overview: Gavin and Doherty Geosolutions Ltd. (GDG) requires an experienced Receptionist/Administrative Assistant to be based at our office in the Dublin 14 area. This is a full time role that will require provision of administrative support across a number of areas. Candidates must have excellent communication, organisational and computer skills. They must be able to demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and have the ability to work independently, as well as in a team. Candidates should be capable of reviewing their own work and taking tasks to completion.

Key activities include:

  • Research Engineer (3-4 years’ experience)

Overview: GDG are looking for a research engineer to support our growing R&D team in our Dublin office. The ideal candidate will be from a civil engineering background and have experience of a research environment, either as an academic (post-graduate) researcher or as an active member of an industrial research performing organisation. This role will involve a combination of activities including: delivery of technical research tasks and varied research studies; reviewing deliverables from partner organisations; attending research meetings/workshops; developing new research ideas, and assisting in the writing of new proposals. This role will require the successful candidate to work closely with other members of the research team as well as mentor more junior staff.

The specific technical tasks that are likely to be undertaken will vary significantly to support the needs of the wider commercial business. This includes interfaces with: the offshore/marine team; soil-structure interaction designs; infrastructure and renewables. Specific technical tasks may include software programming, development of engineering tools/algorithms, probabilistic analysis / statistical analysis, technical report writing, and structural analysis/modelling using FEM.

This role will report to the Head of Research and be based in Dublin.

Required Qualifications/Experience:
- PhD through research in Engineering or a Relevant Science subject;
- Knowledge of the Design Process (including specifications, analysis, design and contract documents);
- Experience of Eurocodes;
- Matlab software experience;
- Full Clean Drivers Licence.

  • Senior Engineer/Consultant (10 years’ experience) – Transport Infrastructure Risk Analysis Services

Overview: GDG are looking for a Senior Engineer / Consultant to take on a leading role on developing our business in network risk management for the transport infrastructure sector. This role will require a good understanding of transport infrastructure networks, how they are structured, how they operate and how they manage their assets on an ongoing basis. The role will involve asset management and risk modelling.

Over the past 5 years, GDG have developed core expertise in risk analysis of earthwork assets for the transport sector, with a particular strong emphasis on railway networks. This has culminated in the development of a specific Decision Support Tool for Irish Rail (the national railway owner/operator in Ireland). GDG now aim to develop, market and sell this expertise on a global basis through a number of discrete market channels. GDG are looking for a senior engineer/consultant to come on board to lead this development process. As such, the ideal candidate will have a combined commercial and technical background, with experience of civil engineering research deemed to be a strong plus.

GDG have already initiated this development process by securing Phase 1 of an EC backed funding scheme. The successful candidate for this position will be tasked with building on the Phase 1 funding and securing the next round (Phase 2) under the EC “SME INSTRUMENT” scheme. Following the successful funding round, this role will evolve into the Project Management and delivery of the growing Decision Support and Risk Analysis sector. It is anticipated that the successful candidate would take the lead in the proposal stage and the project delivery stage.

The ideal candidate will be from a civil engineering background or a commercial background in the transport sector. Experience of major infrastructure projects would be deemed beneficial. Significant client interaction with infrastructure owners/operators will be a key aspect of the proposed position. This role will require a dynamic, flexible and driven individual who will commit to the project and drive this aspect of the business forward. A degree of independent working will be required and therefore the ideal candidate shall be comfortable in taking both technical and commercial responsibility.

This role will involve a combination of activities including: research proposal writing, project management, technical management, team development, commercial coordination, business development, etc. This role will require the successful candidate to work closely with other members of the research team as well as mentor more junior staff. While the primary focus of the role is on developing the service sector surrounding transport infrastructure risk analysis services, there will also be a secondary requirement to provide ad-hoc support to the wider technical team in Dublin.

This role will initially report to the Head of Research and be based in Dublin. Following successfully securing the Phase 2 funding this role will report to the Managing Director.

Required Qualifications/Experience:

- PhD or MSc through research in Engineering or a Relevant Science subject;
- Experience of Major Infrastructure Projects;
- Bid Management / Tender Preparation / Research Proposal Writing is essential ;
- Experience of Leading a Team of up 10 members of staff (commercial and technical);
- Previous Exposure to Software Development / Software Architecture ;
- Experience of Contract Documents;
- Technical Development Experience (preferably in a service based / engineering / software industry) ;
- Experience of Business Development, Establishing Strategic Partnerships and Promoting new services to international clients;
- Appreciation of Transport Infrastructure Asset Management and Maintenance Procedures;
