GDG Supports DECC in the issuance of successful Maritime Area Consents (MACs)

Over the past year, we have been working closely with the Department of Energy, Climate and Communications (DECC) to develop a technical framework for the awarding of Maritime Area Consents (MACs), which has now culminated in the successful awarding of seven MACs to the Phase One offshore projects located around the Irish coasts. These projects will contribute toward the Irish Government's target of 7GW of offshore wind by 2030.

This is a major milestone for the industry and we are happy to have played our part in supporting the Government by developing the technical criteria and undertaking the assessment that underpins the MAC awards.

This milestone triggers the projects being able to access the planning system and engage with An Bord Pleanála, where hopefully we will start to see momentum building in the months ahead.
