The combination of six-month rotations, competitive salary, exciting project opportunities, training and mentoring, and the clear path to promotion as a Design Engineer makes GDG an exceptional place to launch your career.

We’re delighted to introduce you to Kelly Griffin, a current Graduate Engineer at GDG, who shares her experience of our Graduate Programme.

What initially attracted you to GDG’s graduate programme?

The variety of projects and the opportunities to work with various sectors across the company including; structures, onshore renewables, civil infrastructure and ports and harbours.

How has the programme helped you grow?

Professionally, I have had the opportunity to work on a variety of different projects gaining experience in the geotechnical design of shallow foundations, the structural design of soil retaining structures and temporary works design. I’ve also been able to gain knowledge of structural and geotechnical software including Tekla Tedds, Greta, Settle3 and Geostudio.

Personally, through working collaboratively across a number of teams I’ve improved my communication skills and I am a lot more confident in myself.

What has been your most memorable experience or achievement during your time in the graduate programme?

There have been a few projects that have been technically challenging, but being able to work through the problem with some more experienced colleagues and seeing the final deliverable being issued and then receiving positive feedback from the client is very rewarding.

What advice would you give to someone considering joining the GDG graduate programme?

Take every opportunity that comes your way, the more varied and challenging the is work in your early career will help you improve your overall engineering skills, both technically and commercially.
