Gavin & Doherty Geosolutions Ltd (GDG) was appointed by BGH Property (Kilcock) to provide a ground movement prediction for a proposed sewer to be installed beneath an Irish Rail line.  GDG were working in collaboration with Pat O’Gorman & Associates who were BGH Property’s engineer.  GDG’s John O’Donovan and Alban Gorreja carried out a site visit to the proposed site of the sewer.

A two-dimensional finite element model was created in Plaxis to model the rail line and the sewer construction sequence.  The sewer was to be constructed using directional drilling technique and the predicted movement for this technique was provided.  A monitoring strategy was proposed by GDG with advice provided on monitoring methodology and installation locations.
