GDG attends the ICE Presidential Visit to Dublin
The President of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Prof. Lord Robert Mair, visited Dublin on the 12th, 13th and 14th February. Gavin & Doherty Geosolutions was delighted to be represented at the event by our Senior Engineer John O’Donovan who is also a member of the ICE’s Republic of Ireland Committee.
On Monday evening we there was presentation on civil engineering in the 19th century by Michael Phillips who is a past president of Engineers Ireland and a Fellow of the ICE. Prof. Lord Mair attended a number of presentations at the Royal St. George Yacht Club on Tuesday, site visit to the Dublin Waste to Energy facility and later a committee meeting with ICE members at the Sandymount Hotel followed by dinner. At the meeting there was a lively debate on a number of topics including the plans for the ICE’s bicentenary, the President’s plans for better utilisation of the library space at One Great George Street and how to attract new members to the profession.
On Wednesday morning Prof. Lord Mair delivered his keynote address at Engineers Ireland titled “Transforming Infrastructure, Transforming Lives Building on 200 years”.
