GDG attended this year’s European Geothermal Congress held in The Hague, Netherlands. The event, organised by The European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC) saw the geothermal community meet to celebrate European excellency and to call for tailored tools to drive further geothermal deployment.

GDG were delighted to have the opportunity to showcase our ongoing Geothermica funded project, GEO-URBAN. The GEO-URBAN project is investigating a novel geophysical survey strategy to assess the geothermal potential in the urban centres of Dublin and Barcelona.

The week’s agenda included a site visit to the Leyweg Geothermal Plant in The Hague. The Leyweg plant is situated in an urban area of The Hague. It was fantastic to learn how the challenges of geothermal energy development in urban areas were overcome by this project and how these lessons can hopefully be applied to projects elsewhere.
