Gavin and Doherty Geosolutions (GDG) have been commissioned by Wicklow County Council to conduct a maritime strategic review for the coastal area of Co. Wicklow.

Wicklow has a unique coastal environment, with active harbours and beaches that provide a platform for leisure activity, commercial shipping, fishing and much more. This study aims to engage with local stakeholders and capture the extent of Wicklow maritime activity, with a view to maximising the potential from our coastal resources for the benefit of the entire community.

The intent of this strategic review is to provide non-statutory guidance for the marine area and assist with policy formulation. It also aims to identify ways the economic base of County Wicklow can be strengthened through its ports and harbours.

The project will focus mainly on the four harbours of Bray, Greystones, Arklow and Wicklow Town.  All four harbours offer many opportunities to enhance and expand the local economy in a sustainable manner. This study will undertake a strategic review of each location to identify future opportunities for the management of the marine environment.

Ultimately, this study is to promote the Wicklow coast as a business and tourist location. We aim to engage with anyone involved in fisheries, aquaculture, tourism, the environment, offshore renewable energy, maritime transport, heritage, culture, planning and development, and recreation groups, e.g. rowing, sailing, fishing, triathlon, scouting, and sub-aqua clubs etc . As you are a valuable stakeholder in the area, we would like to get your opinions, issues and feedback on the current issues facing the Wicklow maritime environment.

GDG would like to cordially invite you to join us at the second public consultation which will take place in Arklow library on Tuesday, 09th July 2019 5pm to 8pm
